Toronto-Dominion Bank Branch (58 Richmond St., Amherstburg, Ontario)
Recollections (1990s to Early 2000s)
During the 1990s and into the early 2000s, there was a Toronto-Dominion Bank branch at 58 Richmond St. in Amherstburg, Ontario.
This is approximately how I recall it being laid out at that time:
The front/main entrance was on the south side along Richmond St., at the very east. I believe there was also a secondary entrance on the east side, allowing easier access to the building from the parking lot located to the north of the building.
The south entrance had a foyer area with at least one automated teller machine (or ABM), and I think it could be accessed even when the rest of the branch was closed.
Inside the branch, the customer-accessible area was along the east, with teller counters running north-south through roughly the middle of the building. Behind the counters, to the west and the north, was the staff area. I believe the customer-accessible area along the east extended north approximately to where the secondary entrance was, with some more staff space north of that.
Along the east wall were tables where deposit slips and other paperwork could be filled out by customers.
There was a customer queue line area formed using moveable poles and ropes between the tables on the east and the teller counters to the west.
I don't recall exactly how many standing teller counters there were, but it was probably around four or five. I think there was at least one lower teller counter where customers could sit, as well.
I remember there being at least one Lions Clubs International mints tray upon the customer side of the teller counters, where rolls of wintergreen and peppermint mints could be bought by inserting money into a box within the display.
Within the staff area behind the counters, I remember there being a machine for counting paper currency. I'm less certain about this, but I believe there was a large vault area, possibly with safety deposit boxes, toward the north-west corner of the building.
At some point in the early 2000s, after TD acquired Canada Trust, the 58 Richmond St. location was closed, and the newer Canada Trust branch nearby at 89 Richmond St. was converted to the TD Canada Trust branding.
As of 2025, Precision Jewellers occupies the former bank building. Externally, it still looks quite similar to how it did when the bank operated from there.

The “Bricks-N-Beams” article on page 4 mentions the construction of the bank building.
