Anderdon Police Services Building (3380 Middle Side Rd., Amherstburg, Ontario)
Recollections (Late 1980s to Early 2000s)
I remember travelling past the Anderdon Police Services building that was located at 3380 Middle Side Rd. (County Rd. 10) in Anderdon Township, Ontario, and then in Amherstburg, Ontario after Anderdon was amalgamated with Amherstburg in 1998.
It was a small, rectangular, brick-clad, one-storey structure located at the east edge of Anderdon Park (3320 Middle Side Rd.) and to the west of the Anderdon Fire Department building (3400 Middle Side Rd.; Amherstburg Fire Department Station 2 as of 2026).
I never went inside it, and I’m not sure how, or if, it was used after the Anderdon and Malden police were combined with Amherstburg’s police.
The building has since been demolished.
Other Information
The County of Essex “2010 Aerial” Base Map from https://maps.countyofessex.ca/ depicts the building, and the County of Essex “2013 Aerial” Base Map depicts the site after the building was demolished:
The Anderdon Township Police Service (ON) page of Police Vehicles of Canada (PoliceCanada.ca) has some photographs of vehicles that happen to include the building in the background:
- Southwest corner and middle of the south side (front): Apparently taken from between the building and Middle Side Rd., with a small portion of the building’s sign visible at the right of the photograph. The north part of the grass field area of Anderdon Park is visible at the left of the photograph.
- Southeast corner and south end of the east side: Apparently taken from between the building and the fire station, with Middle Side Rd. visible at the left of the photograph.
- Southeast corner and south end of the east side: Apparently taken from between the building and the fire station, with Middle Side Rd. visible at the left of the photograph.
- Southeast corner: Apparently taken from between the building and Middle Side Rd., with a small portion of the building’s sign visible at the left of the photograph. The west side, southwest corner, and south side (front) of the fire station are prominently visible throughout most of the photograph.
- Northeast corner and north end of the east side: Apparently taken from between the building and the fire station building. The north part of the grass field area of Anderdon Park, and the northeast part of the grass field area of Anderdon Public School (3170 Middle Side Rd.) are visible toward the right side of the photograph.
The building is not mentioned in the 2003-06-04 archived version of the post-amalgamation Amherstburg Police Service webpage on the Town of Amherstburg’s website.
Google Street View imagery from August 2009 shows the west side, south side (front), and east side of the building.
The building had been demolished by the time of the May 2012 Google Street View imagery, and the location where it once stood was part of the driveway area to the west of the fire station building. The May 2014 and July 2021 imagery appear to show an unpaved gravel area where the building once was. The June 2025 imagery seems to show the east part as having been paved over at some point, with grass apparently growing on the west part.
Based on the aforementioned aerial photos and the Google Street View imagery, the building seems to have been demolished sometime during 2010 to 2012.
